Stay Safe This Holiday Season – Especially in these Cities

If you’re looking to stay safe over New Year’s Eve this year, be aware that some cities are far worse than others. In fact, here are the 25 drunkest cities in America – the worst cities to be out on during the holiday season.

1. Boston, MASS.
2. Norfolk, VA
3. Milwaukee, WI
4. Charleston, S.C.
5. Austin, TX
6. Hartford – New Haven, CT
7. New Orleans, LA
8. Chicago, IL
9. Washington, D.C.
10. Providence, RI
11. Minneapolis – St. Paul, MN
12. Omaha, NB
13. Baltimore, MA
14. Springfield, MASS.
15. Denver, CO
16. Baton Rouge, LA
17. Reno, NV
18. San Francisco, CA
19. Philadelphia, PA
20. Fargo, N. Dakota
21. Las Vegas, NV
22. Buffalo, NY
23. St. Louis, MO
24. Cleveland, Ohio
25. Burlington, Vermont

In the cities above, between one in every 5 or 6 binge drink – all year. Which means, basically, that they drink too much in one sitting to be anywhere near safe as drivers. Which also means that they are very out of control, are very likely to cause accidents if they drive, and could kill people.

And since many people who drink tend to drink more on New Year’s Eve, the number of binge drinkers out driving on that night is even greater.

People who don’t drink often think it’s not a problem because they will be careful. But with drunk drivers, being careful isn’t enough. It can be almost impossible to avoid an accident when a car comes speeding through an intersection, a red light, or around a corner. The same with someone who’s behind you, tailgating or speeding, who doesn’t notice that you’ve slowed down or stopped. Or maybe they noticed it, because their reaction time was just too slow to do something about it.

Want to be safe this year? Stay home. Or, if you go out, make an overnight stay of it so you don’t have to go on the roads. And you can even do the same for your kids – if they’re going to a party, help them pay for a hotel nearby so they don’t have to come home. Or arrange overnight stays for them with friends. Or if you’re having a party yourself, be prepared to put some people up.

There are plenty of solutions. Whichever one(s) you use, have a great holiday season!

And if any of those drinkers are members of your family, take special precautions regarding them. And get them into alcohol rehab in the new year, as soon as possible.
