Does Your City Influence Your Kids' Drinking Alcohol?

Whether or not your kids turn into drinkers is somewhat dependent on their environment. If your kids’ friends don’t drink, there’s a good chance your kids won’t either. The same applies to the town or city you live in. Is it big on alcohol? If so, your kids are going to have more temptation to overcome. Which also increases the risk that they will turn into drinkers and eventually need alcohol rehab to get their lives back.

The Daily Beast compiled a list of U.S. cities and by compiling information from several sources, determined which cities are the most drunk. Here’s the list:

  1. Boston, Mass.
  2. Springfield, Mass.
  3. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  4. Reno, Nevada
  5. San Antonio, TX
  6. Chicago, IL
  7. Austin, TX
  8. St. Louis, MO
  9. San Diego, CA
  10. Tucson, AZ
  11. Burlington, VT
  12. Charleston, S.C.
  13. Denver, CO
  14. Las Vegas, NV
  15. Fort Myers, FL
  16. Buffalo, NY
  17. Sioux Falls, S.D.
  18. Lincoln, Nebraska
  19. Seattle, Wash
  20. Bismarck, N.D.
  21. Providence, R.I.
  22. San Francisco, CA
  23. Cleveland, OH
  24. Norfolk, VA
  25. Houston, TX

What do you do with this list as parents? Prepare yourself – be aware of the fact that just living in any of those cities is going to expose your family to more alcohol than they would be if you lived somewhere else.

That doesn’t mean you should move, but it does mean it might help to choose your neighborhoods, schools, friends, activities and associates wisely.

The more temptation a young person has in their life, the greater the chances are they’ll drink. And, therefore, the greater the chance of alcohol ruining their lives – and maybe yours.

Become aware of your environment, take steps to control it, and your life will be more likely to turn out the way you want it.
